"Mont Blanc Region Hike" .... a Mont Blanc sensation!

In comparison to its famous neighbour "the Tour du Mont Blanc" this French based circular GR route offers two enormous advantages.... LESS PEOPLE and MORE VARIED SCENERY. The views are enormous and Mont Blanc from a further distance provides an even greater spectacle. The "Mont Blanc Region Tour" - in French "Tour de Pays du Mont Blanc" or abbreviated "TPMB" is, in our opinion, the greatest circular hike in the world. We have selected five tough hikes based on this amazing tour.

You need to be fit. The days are fairly intensive with long hikes and short breaks all rewarded by the most outstanding scenery. The sections on the Mont Blanc side which run parallel with the Tour of Mont Blanc are already covered on our Mont Blanc Highlights and Circuit trips. We concentrate instead on the clockwise sweep through the heart of the Mont Blanc Region, with its never ending mountain vistas.

7 nights in the Chalet Savoy (hot tub, sauna, wifi).

Dinner in Chalet Savoy.

TUESDAY (day 3) 30 minute drive to Les Contamines. A day of extreme contrasts from dramatic Alpine passes to rolling farmland. The Signal gondola lift carries us to 1750 metres altitude from where a TMPB path traverses southwards, and then climbs to the spectacular Col de la Fenetre (2245 metres). We are rewarded by a stunning view on one side of Mont Blanc and dacross to the Col de Bonhomme, and on the other side of the Col across to the Beaufortain region, famous for its cheese. We tuck behind the Aiguille de Roselette descending to the Col de Joli. Now we are on both the Tour de Pays du Mont Blanc and the Tour du Beaufortain as our path continues to the Col de Very. We cross the summit of the Mont de Vores (2097 metres) and finish in the Plan Desert parking (1491 metres) for our 50 minute transfer back to the Chalet Savoy for dinner.

WEDNESDAY (day 4) This must be one of the best hikes in the Alps. A 35 minute drive above Megeve and we climb from 1500 metres to the Tete de Christomet Peak 1844 where we join the TMPB route walking a high crest with impressive views across to the Mont Blanc Range. After reaching the summit of the Petit Croisse Baulet (2236 metres) a dramatic traverse of the Croise Baulet and crossing of the Col de Niard brings us to the Aravis Mountains whose dramatic summits now tower above our trail. We pass the film location for the snow scenes in the James Bond Film "The World is not enough" with Pierce Brosnan as we descend to Burzier 1050 metres. A short 25 minute drive brings us back to the Chalet Savoy for dinner.

THURSDAY (day 5)
(no driving) This morning we climb the Prarion Mountain (1969 metres) leaving on foot from the chalet (1085 metres). En route we pass Charousse, film location for the epic film "The Mountain" starring Spencer Tracy. We reach the Prarion's crest via the Forclaz Pass and stand 900 metres above the Chalet marvelling at the 360 degree panorama. We descend southwards from the peak to the Prarion cable car which we ride back into to the valley and regain the chalet on foot. In the afternoon we are free to explore Chamonix, perhaps ride a chairlift to the Bossons Glacier or ride the Aiguille du Midi cable car. Dinner free.

FRIDAY (day 6) 20 minutes drive to Hauteville (900 metres) We climb to Lachat 1685 metres) to enjoy a day traversing the southern flank of the Fiz Mountains. Perhaps a well earned coffee at the Chalets de Varan refuge 1820 (metres) while we look deep down into the Arve Valley. Far in the distance we can admire some of the peaks we have conquered during our tour. We continue our traverse then descend to Plain Joux (1360 metres) via Charbonniere. A 25 minute drive brings us back to the Chalet Savoy for dinner.

SATURDAY (day 7) A 20 minute drive over the Montets Pass and our hike commences by the Berard falls (1450 metres) entering the "Vallon de Berard" Nature Reserve. We climb the dramatic Berard Valley which steepens as our rocky ascent nears the Salenton Pass (2526 metres). We descend into the Passy Nature Reserve possibly sighting Ibex in this dramatic nature reserve. With the Aiguille Rouge peaks and Mont Blanc on one side and the Fiz (the largest limestone plateau in the Alps) on the other this really is an unforgettable end to what must be the world's greatest hiking circuit. We finish the hike at Plain Joux (1360 metres). A 25 minute drive brings us back to the Chalet Savoy for dinner.

SUNDAY (day 8) Included transfer to airport.(1 1/4 hour drive)
